The other day I received an email from Michelle Satter the Founding Director of the Sundance Institute expressing warmest regards. The Sundance Institute is the backing institution of the Sundance Film Festival pioneered by Robert Redford. It is a lifelong dream to direct a film and so I applied for a scholarship to Co//ab and was accepted. Sundance Co//ab is a digital artist initiative of the Sundance Institute, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the discovery and development of independent artists and audiences.
Through its programs, the Institute seeks to discover, support, and inspire independent film, media, and theatre artists from the United States and around the world, and introduce audiences to their new work. This summer I will be participating in the core elements of the directing program introduced to me by Jessica Hobbs (award winning director from New Zealand, known for her work on The Crown (2019), starring Olivia Colman and Helena Bonham Carter, among other projects.).
From pre-production to working with actors and more—with experienced directors as my guides this course will be life changing. I will learn how to assemble my crew, work with actors, and translate work from script-to-screen by directing and filming a scene. I am counting on this course offered by Sundance Co//ab to be a rich and fulfilling experience that takes my craft to the next level!
