What We Left Behind on the Edit Room Floor
Over the course of the past week I have been working with Jolene Van Antwerp an extraordinary documentary film editor working on my project "Up Country" working title. Her contribution has evolved to meet the demands of the project as we push further into the unknown as filmmakers, helping to advance the understanding of homelessness around the world. Today I had a window onto Jolene's work not only through her website but from the files she uploaded from Africa giving me a renewed sense hope about the project. An African proverb states "If you want to go fast go alone but if you want to go far go together". This proverb has always remained consistent in regards to my experience as a filmmaker.
In a year some people consider lost forever dealing with time i.e. editing a documentary sustains and diverts our full attention to a worthy endeavor. Playing with time can be rewarding. I don't know what the next era of time will be but it will certainly be influenced by our understanding of time and the meteoric like encounter with anomalies like covid 19 so we better keep being creative.
